Asopacal
An e-commerce platform with real-time inventory and a circular economy marketplace for the school community

The challenge
ASOPACAL, the parents' association of Colegio Alemán de Medellín, needed a solution that could serve commercial, social, educational and community needs at the same time, rather than being limited to selling products. The challenges were clear: centralize access to school materials, products and activities in a single channel; keep item availability current; move the buying and selling of used school items into an organized environment; strengthen how parents connect with one another; and create a space to announce workshops, conferences and events tied to school life.
The solution
We built a digital platform conceived as an ecosystem rather than a conventional online store. It brings together e-commerce, real-time inventory, a circular economy marketplace, networking and management of educational activities, consolidating the school community's different needs in one digital environment. As a result, the channel stopped functioning purely as a transactional tool and became a meeting point for parents, students and school staff, inside an environment directly associated with the Colegio Alemán de Medellín community.
The result
Stronger communication between parents, students and school staff through a shared digital channel.
What we built
- An online store for the school community, covering school materials and products as well as the sale of school events and activities.
- A real-time inventory management system connected to the shopping experience, so availability information stays accurate at the point of purchase.
- A circular economy marketplace where families buy and sell used items: books, clothing, toys and other products.
- A membership module for parents joining the ASOPACAL community.
- Networking features that connect members and foster professional and personal support networks.
- Management and promotion of workshops, conferences and training activities, including member registration and participation.
- A communication channel among the different members of the school community.
Impact and results
- Stronger communication between parents, students and school staff through a shared digital channel.
- More active participation, with tools that make purchases, collaboration and event attendance easier.
- A boost to the circular economy through a used-goods marketplace that encourages reuse and responsible consumption.
- Networking with purpose, creating space for meaningful connections between families.
- Better access to activities, with information about workshops, conferences and events in one place.
- Greater community cohesion, with technology serving not only as a transactional tool but as a way to strengthen ties inside the school.
- For ASOPACAL, a digital infrastructure with far broader reach than a conventional e-commerce site, consolidating services, digitizing processes and connecting families.
